I would personally love to visit with each of you about your special day. I would love to help you determine if you do in fact need a planner, or if “flying solo” is a good thing for you. (Which can sometimes be the case.)
I am different from many wedding planners because in the 30 years of Designing, Decorating, Planning & Coordinating events…I would like to say that I’ve seen it all. But every event harbors something that even I have never seen before. (And that's what makes it kinda fun!)
Weddings are an "orchestration" of sorts...You, your betrothed, your families and guests along with the ceremony, the music, the ambience, food and the vendors. This superb orchestration is designed to manage the million little details related to taking care of all of them. (At once!) Each facet of your event is special unto itself; yet it is in orchestrating the timing of how they link (and work) together that creates the perfect event to remember.
My philosophy is, that you have hired me to manage your wedding day the way YOU would host an event in your home. The only thing… you are supposed to be the center of attention that day. You can’t WORK too.
"Aunt LuLu Syndrome..." So often, brides tend to think that an aunt, a cousin or a friend can be their planner -- and perhaps she can. But I can tell you that Aunt LuLu won’t be able to do what a professional Wedding Planner will. A Wedding Planner worth her salt will pay for herself (sometimes himself) in what she saves you in time, money & peace of mind. A professional Wedding Planner is skilled to guide you in fulfilling your wishes for your wedding. A professional Wedding Planner not only has the contacts with vendors to make your day more enjoyable, often they have viable connections with vendors that can get you a better price.
"The early bride gets the worm..."
Good Wedding Planners live by the calendar. So when you're getting ready to hire one, it's helpful to take a page out of her book: Start your search well in advance — we're talking 10 to 15 months ahead of time (if you have it). Not only will the planner you hire have more time to realize your vision, but she'll be better able to save you money. That's because she can help you lock-in vendors, such as caterers, photographers, reception halls & etc.. before these vendors effect any rate increases. (This generally occurs in January.)
That being said... If you don't have the luxury of having so many months to plan, have no fear! Every now and then, I have the pleasure of planning a wedding in just a few days. Yes...DAYS! Because of my extensive knowledge and connections in this industry, it CAN be done! Just know that it may be a matter of getting married on an "off peak" day. However...getting married "off peak" can amount to quite a substantial savings! =)
Don’t be fooled by the letters behind the name… A Certified Wedding Planner ~ “ACDWC” or “ACWC” means ANYONE can pay a fee and put these letters behind their name. That does NOT make them a professional Wedding Planner. Experience is the ONLY thing that will make your Wedding Planner worth your time and expense.
How long have they been doing this? Don't get me wrong...everyone has to start sometime. But the “younger” in experience the Planner is, the lower their price should be. Don't pay top dollar if you're not getting the best.
How do they advertise? The good Planners don’t advertise. They don’t need to. Word-of-mouth means EVERYTHING in this industry.
Do they hide behind a clipboard? When someone is managing things from behind a clipboard...they miss important things that will happen during your event. Any experienced Wedding Planner doesn't need a clipboard to run "Your Show"... they have everything practically memorized, down to the last detail. I personally, supply a detailed production itinerary to every person/vendor involved with the success of your event, weeks ahead of time. Doing this, offers you a "Big Picture" of your BIG Day and allows everyone else a confirmation of what they are responsible for.
Does he/she match what you want your Planner to look or act like? Impressions mean everything. If you are turned-off by their appearance or demeanor, your guests will be too.
References? If you have the time, go ahead and ask around to some of their former and current clients. I guarantee you…if they prefer not to give you any references, don’t hire them.
Can they get the job done? This person is being hired to represent your wishes, in your absence and ensure that the plans for your wedding are followed. So, you need to feel the utmost confidence in your Planner.
Can you afford it? The real question is…can you afford not to? A good Wedding Planner saves you in countless ways -- money, stress & most precious of all…time. She will pay for herself in the long run and your happy and stress-free wedding day will prove it!
